The clock flashes 5:55… again.
With it comes anxiety that all will change and the fear that nothing will.
Election, hurricanes, fires, floods, mis/disinformation…. There has been so much collective energy focused on this Fall with the U.S. election. The results of which will determine the fate of so much.
Meanwhile, our entire modus operandi is being reinvented with AI—from everyday tasks to our jobs. Not to mention, so many people in the eastern part of the United States are without a home due to back-to-back hurricanes.
The amount of change and unknown is mind-bending.
How can we ground into a reality until we know the direction we are headed. This isn’t just in the collective, it feels true in my own life as well.
If you’re feeling on edge, you’re not alone. The image that comes to mind is standing on the edge of a cliff. But what also comes to me is that there’s not actually a cliff, only the perception of one. The next step is actually onto solid ground, or at least sandy, malleable ground. Standable, nonetheless.
I’ve never been a “jump and let the net catch you” kind of person. I like to investigate what I’m jumping into, along with the integrity of the net. In fact, I’m not really one to jump at all. I’ve come to learn that when it feels like I’m stepping into the unknown, the best thing to do is take the “next right step” (a phrase commonly used in Al-Anon recovery).
The “next right step” might be a big decision like leaving a relationship or job, or saying yes to a big move, but it could also mean a small step that one day leads to something bigger. Or it could mean deciding to take a nap, or meditating with a cup of tea, or simply showing up for what’s on your calendar.
The point is the cliff isn’t really a cliff. You’ve done the ground work and the next step is that which is within reach. Sand or soil, we’ve got this.

Here’s what I’m into these days…
📺 TV & Film
Disclaimer on AppleTV: Only two episodes in and this is pure cinema.
Nobody Wants This on Netflix: If you love a good romdramcom, this is the series for you. Who doesn’t love these two, not to mention the siblings. And of course the whole ‘we can’t be together because of cultural reasons’ theme. It’s great.
🎧 Music & Podcasts

📚 Books
Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill: I dug back in the archives for this one. It’s been about twenty years since I read it the first time and decided to revisit it. I needed to re-read this part: Don’t give up at the 11th hour. That’s when most people give up.
Mind Magic by James Doty: Perhaps the modern day Napoleon Hill. You might start with his breakout book, Into the Magic Shop, first before this one. Either way, you can’t help but love this neuroscientist and take in his every word.
One day I will get to my stack of fiction books….
Yay! No cliff, I'm skipping through...
